3.2.16 Library Committee

(Bylaws)

  1. The Library Committee is responsible to the University Senate.

  2. The committee consists of the Director of Libraries; three members of the teaching faculty elected by the faculty in multi-candidate elections; one member of the teaching faculty elected by the faculty in a single-candidate election, and two students selected by ASWWU Senate. The three faculty members elected by the faculty in multi-candidate elections should be selected to represent each of the following areas: humanities, science-math-engineering, and professional-technical. The chair is selected by the committee's members from the teaching faculty members.

  3. The term of membership is three years for faculty and one year for the chair.

  4. The work of the committee is to
    1. Serve as a link between the libraries and university community in

      i. Promoting faculty awareness and utilization of the libraries' Information Literacy Instruction Series

      ii. Promoting use of library resources

      iii. Advocating support for a strong university libraries program that meets needs while supporting faculty teaching and research

    2. Select the speaker for the annual William Landeen Library Lecture by soliciting input from faculty representing each of the following areas: humanities, science-math-engineering, and professional-technical
    3. Advise in the development and analysis of the biennial student and periodic faculty and staff library satisfaction surveys

    4. Advise in both the operation and growth of the library as it serves the community

  5. The committee meets when called by the chair.

(Procedures)

  1. Protocol
    1. Agendas are prepared and distributed by the chair. Committee members may suggest items for consideration.

    2. A quorum consists of fifty-one percent of the faculty membership. Ex officio members of the committee constitute part of the quorum and may vote.

    3. Actions are taken by majority vote.

    4. Committee workload (average in clock hours per quarter):

      i. Chair: 20-25 hrs.

      ii. Members: 8 hrs.

    5. Minutes are kept by a secretary elected from among committee members.

    6. Guests will be invited to bring concerns and/or proposed documents before the committee to respond to documents already before the committee.

    7. The chair makes assignments to individuals or forms sub-committees as needed.

  2. Communication
    1. The chair sends copies of minutes to the chair of University Senate and to members.
