2.2.9 Housing Committee

(Bylaws)

  1. The Housing Committee is responsible to the Vice President for Student Life .

  2. Membership includes the Vice President for Student Life; the Director of Residential Life and Housing, chair; the Assistant Director for Off-Campus Housing, vice chair; the Dean of Residence and Student Life (Portland Campus); and the deans of the residence halls.

  3. The work of the committee is to
    1. Evaluate and process recommendations from Student Financial Services, the Student Development Center, and Disability Support Services related to Residence Hall Waiver Applications.

    2. Examine and revise residence hall policies and procedures providing recommendations to the Vice President for Student Life and the Assistant Vice President for Student Life for review and approval.

    3. Assess and address resident life housing concerns, including student complaints, facility-related issues, and policy compliance matters.

    4. Identify and provide resolutions for residence life housing challenges, ensuring alignment with institutional policies and student needs.

    5. Approve or deny requests for housing accommodations that fall outside standard policy boundaries for off-campus housing.

  4. The committee meets weekly or when called by the chair.

(Procedures)

  1. Protocol
    1. The chair or vice-chair sets the agenda and solicits items from committee members.

    2. Actions are taken by vote.

    3. Committee member workload: 12 hours per quarter

    4. Meeting times are decided at the beginning of each quarter.

    5. The chair or vice-chair processes committee recommendations and documents for perusal and action of other governance bodies unless specifically assigned otherwise by the committee.

    6. Recommendations and/or documents from other governance bodies directed to the Housing Committee are processed in consultation with the chair with appropriate communication following any actions taken.

  2. Communication
    1. Minutes are sent to members and the Vice President for Student Life.

    2. Communication with various sectors of the campus is the responsibility of the Vice President of Student Life and Mission.

    3. Committee records are kept confidential and recorded in a manner to protect the privacy of the involved parties.

  3. Documentation
    1. Recommendations from the committee are accompanied by appropriately written statements of rationale and supporting documentation.

    2. Archival records of the work of the Housing Committee are kept by the chair and given to succeeding chairs.
