MATH 112 Mathematics for Elementary Teachers I
Designed to help the prospective elementary school teacher develop a deep understanding of topics typically covered in the K-8 mathematics curriculum. Topics include problem solving strategies; sets; numeration systems; arithmetic for whole numbers, integers, rational numbers, and real numbers using multiple algorithms; elementary number theory; proportions; and percentages. Emphasizes constructing concrete models for these concepts, and lab work is required. This course does not apply towards a major or minor in mathematics, but it does apply towards the general studies requirement for the baccalaureate degree and the minor in mathematics for middle school teachers. Offered odd years.
