Orientation

All new incoming students are required to attend an orientation session prior to their first quarter in attendance. Orientation is required to prepare students for success at WWU, both academically and personally. It introduces them to the university’s Seventh-day Adventist values and spiritual life, equips them with the practical knowledge and skills to navigate university systems and resources, fosters a sense of belonging and community, encourages engagement in campus life, and provides families with the tools to support their students’ transition to college.

JumpStart: All first-time freshmen (those who have completed fewer than 45 college-level credits) are required to attend the JumpStart Program (University Experience class), which takes place the week prior to the beginning of fall quarter classes. The JumpStart Program focuses on topics and activities that will help students make a successful transition to the university academically, socially, and spiritually. JumpStart includes regular orientation information, financial clearance, course placement, academic advisement, and finalization of the registration process. Students who successfully complete the JumpStart Program receive one elective credit.

Transfer students (those bringing in 45 or more college-level credits) will attend a separate orientation session prior to the beginning of fall quarter.
Before the beginning of the winter and spring quarters, all new students will attend a one-day orientation session.

A fee is assessed for orientation programs; see the Academic Fees Section of the Financial Bulletin.
