Financial Aid Process

In order for the student to receive the maximum amount of financial aid, all required paperwork must be filled out completely, signed wherever required, and submitted promptly. Early applicants usually receive larger grant awards, and students can receive no aid before submitting all required forms.

LATE APPLICATIONS. Financial aid applications received after April 30 prior to the school year are considered on a first-come, first-served basis as funds are available. Students who submit applications, corrections, or other required information less than two weeks before the start of classes usually receive less financial aid, may encounter delays at registration, and may have to register late unless they can cover the quarter's down payment without financial aid.

LACK OF INFORMATION. Students who do not supply the information required for each type of aid are not awarded aid until the information is received. The award is forfeited if the information is received after the program deadline.

REAPPLICATION. In order to continue receiving financial aid, recipients must reapply for financial aid each year.

TRANSFER OF AID. Funds awarded by Walla Walla University cannot be transferred to other institutions.


Financial Aid Process Checklist

The following outlines the steps involved in the process of applying for and being awarded financial aid:
1.     All students wanting financial aid should complete a Free Application for
        Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). It is important for the student to provide
        Walla Walla University's Title IV School Code (003799) on the FAFSA so
        that the student's information may be released to WWU.

        Students are encouraged to complete and submit the FAFSA via the
        Internet at: fafsa.ed.gov

        For maximum aid, the FAFSA should be submitted by March 1 prior to
        the academic school year in which the student plans to attend. (If the
        FAFSA is submitted by mail, a minimum of four weeks' processing time
        is required.)

        Students should complete and submit a Walla Walla University Financial
        Aid Application Form. The online applications may be found at our web
        site at: sfs.wallawalla.edu/application

2.     The student receives a Student Aid Report (SAR) from the Federal
        Processing Center.

        If the student did not list Walla Walla University on the FAFSA, he or she
        needs to log on to the FAFSA website and add WWU's Federal School
        Code, 003799, so information will be released to WWU.

3.     If Student Financial Services determines that the student is eligible to
        receive a Federal Direct Loan, the student will be asked to complete an
        online Master Promissory Note and Entrance Interview.

4.     The federal government selects about a third of all aid applicants for
        verification. Only students who are notified that they have been
        selected for verification need to complete the following three-step
        procedure:

        A. The student receives an email or letter from WWU with links to the
            forms that need to be completed. Because these forms require the
            signature of a parent for dependent students, these cannot be
            submitted online.

        B. The student uses IRS Data Retrieval on fafsa.ed.gov to update their
            FAFSA with IRS verified information or mails their 2015 IRS Tax
            Transcript to Walla Walla University. If the student did not file and
            will not file for 2015, they must complete a Non-Filer Form.

        C. If the parent was required to supply income information on the
            FAFSA, the parent needs to use IRS Data Retrieval on
            fafsa.ed.gov to update their FAFSA with IRS verified information
            or have their parents mail their 2015 IRS Tax Transcript to
            Walla Walla University. If the parents did not file and will not
            file for 2015, they must complete Non-Filer Forms.

        NOTE: An IRS Tax Transcript is obtained from the IRS. Copies of 1040
        tax forms are not acceptable.

5.     After all required documents have been submitted, Student Financial
        Services issues a Financial Aid Award Portfolio which includes an
        award letter detailing the student's financial aid package and a
        Personalized Financial Plan showing a quarterly breakdown of how much
        money from each aid source will be credited to the student's account.
        Unless otherwise noted, financial aid awards are disbursed one-third
        per quarter for fall, winter, and spring.

        Each time there is a change in the financial aid award, the student is
        issued a new award letter.
