Product Design Major (Bachelor of Science)

A student majoring in Product Design must complete a minimum of 96 quarter hours in the major consisting of the core courses and technical requirements. In addition, the student must complete required cognates, the general studies program, and all baccalaureate degree requirements for a total of 192 quarter hours, as outlined in this bulletin.

Product Design is the professional service of creating and developing concepts and specifications optimizing the function, value and appearance of products and systems for the mutual benefit of user and manufacturer. Students learn to analyze and solve diverse design problems from technical, aesthetic, social, and ecological viewpoints. Design thinking is utilized throughout the program along with the project-based curriculum. Work progresses from developmental drawings, mock-ups and models, to working drawings and prototype construction with manufacturing considerations. Additionally, Product Designers may perform their work in a digital arena such as web design and UI/UX. The B.S. in Product Design offers the knowledge and experiences that prepare students to become competitive product and industrial designers.
